Emily developed her love for dancing at a very young age. She trained in many styles including ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, hip-hop and ballroom. However, her favourite styles grew to be jazz and tap, where she completed many exams with the Commonwealth Society of Teachers of Dancing (CSTD) and Glen Wood syllabuses.

Whilst completing her education at Golden Beach State School and Caloundra State High School, Emily participated in many dancing and performing arts extra curriculums. These included both the middle school and senior school dance teams, cheerleading squad, chaos, musicals and talent shows. Emily also received the honour of Jet dance captain for the middle school dance team in 2011 and Edge dance captain for the senior school dance team in 2013. Whilst in the roles of Jet and Edge dance captain, Emily learnt how to be a leader and has become a positive role model.

At the age of 15, Emily found her passion for teaching dance and started to assist with dance classes at a local dance school. From the age of 18, she furthered her teaching experience by working as a relief and casual dance teacher for many local dance schools on the Sunshine Coast. After high school, Emily furthered her knowledge by completing a Diploma of Business, which has prepared her for running her own business. She also completed 18 months of a Bachelor of Primary Education, where she learnt many teaching skills, including behaviour management. While studying these degrees full time, Emily also worked towards her dance qualification. Focusing on the style of Jazz she completed her CSTD Teachers’ Certificate at the age of 19 and her CSTD Teachers’ Diploma at the age of 20. Although very qualified and knowledgeable at a young age, Emily is always updating her skills by attending workshops, seminars and courses.

After collecting a few years of teaching experience, Emily decided it was time to open her own dance school. She started operating Impulse Performing Arts in December 2017 with classes starting in January 2018 at Meridan State College. Now pursuing her dream as a proud new business owner and dance director, it’s Emily’s next goal to help her students to achieve their dreams too, no matter how big or small.
